Magical stories for them, a mindful moment for you

Sensory Storytime Classes in North Tyneside

A little magic for them. A little pause for you.

If you’re here, I’m guessing your little one is at that stage where they’re more awake, more wriggly, and you’re starting to think… okay, what now?

Do I just keep singing “Wind the Bobbin Up” on repeat?
Am I supposed to have a daily activity plan?
And how do I actually entertain a baby who can’t even sit up yet?

First up: you’re not alone. No one gets handed a “what to do with your baby” manual. (Wouldn’t that be handy?)

That’s exactly why I created Sensory Storytime.

Each week, we share a simple story together, with songs, sensory play and little moments of magic for your baby. It’s calm, cosy and connection-focused. Nothing overwhelming, nothing noisy and absolutely baby-led.

And while your baby is taking in the colours, textures and sounds, you get something too:
- A chance to get out of the house
- Connection with other Mams in the same stage
- Space to just be without pressure or judgement

It’s not about ticking milestones or “doing it right.” It’s about enjoying time together. All with a cup of tea in hand and the reminder that you’re doing an amazing job. Because I will 100% hype you up each week.

What actually happens in a Sensory Storytime class?

We start with a simple story – brought to life with props, actions and gentle interaction, so your baby can listen, watch and soak up language in a fun, relaxed way.

We sing songs and rhymes – some you’ll know, some new favourites you’ll take home (perfect for those “what do I do all day?” moments).

We explore sensory play – scarves, textures, lights and sounds that spark your baby’s curiosity without overwhelming them.

We pause for a cuppa and chat – because you matter too and sometimes having another adult to talk to is just as valuable (if not more) as the class itself.

Every session is baby-led: if they feed, cry, nap or wriggle, that’s totally fine. There’s no pressure to “keep up” you and your baby set the pace.

When was the last time you checked in on you?

Yes, sensory classes are cute. The scarves, the bubbles, the songs. But what really matters in my classes is how you feel while you’re here.

From the moment you walk in, you’ll be greeted with a smile and shown into a cosy, calm space. You won’t feel like you have to “perform” or pretend you’ve got it all together. You can just arrive exactly as you are.

You’ll sit with other Mams who get it. The sleepless nights, the endless “Is this normal?” questions, the mix of joy and overwhelm that no one really prepares you for. And instead of feeling like you’re on your own with that, you’ll feel part of something.

By the end of class, I want you to leave feeling lighter, more connected and more confident. Like you’ve had a reset as much as your baby has had stimulation.

Because yes, the sensory play is for them… but the grounding, calm and community? That’s for you.

A little note from me if you’re feeling unsure…

Starting a new class can feel a bit daunting, especially when you’re sleep-deprived and not totally sure what day it is.

But you don’t need to be in a “good routine”. You don’t need a chilled baby. You don’t even need to brush your hair (though you can if you want).

You just need to come as you are. I’ll meet you there. See you on the mat?

Sensory Storytime Class FAQs

  • It’s a gentle baby class that combines simple stories, songs and sensory play in a calm, cosy environment. Each week we bring a story to life with props, textures, lights and sounds, so your baby can explore and engage without overwhelm.

But it’s not just about entertaining your baby, it’s also about giving you a chance to pause, have a cuppa and connect with other Mams. Think of it as a little weekly reset for both of you.

  • Sensory Storytime is designed for babies from around 3 months up to pre-toddling. At this stage, little ones are more awake, curious and ready to explore - but not yet doing full laps round the room, so they can fully enjoy the stories, songs and sensory play.

If your baby is lifting their head, starting to grab at things, or showing an interest in the world around them, this class is a lovely fit.

  • Just your usual baby bag (nappies, wipes, milk/feeds). I provide all props, stories and sensory items and of course, the tea and biscuits. Please let me know of any allergies at the time of booking.

  • That’s completely normal (and expected). You’re welcome to feed, change, cuddle, rock, or just sit and soothe as needed. Baby comes first and there’s no judgement here.

The class is flexible and totally baby-led.

  • Not at all. These groups are small and welcoming and many Mams come on their own for their very first class. You’ll be welcomed in and quickly find your feet. Lots of friendships have started right here and we have a supportive WhatsApp chat for any questions/meet ups between sessions.

  • Firstly - you’re not alone.

That feeling is more common than most people realise. As a registered mental health therapist, I make sure these sessions feel emotionally safe, with gentle check-ins and space to share (if and when you feel like it). You don’t have to be “okay” to come. These classes are designed to help you feel better supported.

  • The course runs over 4 weeks, with one class each week. Each session lasts around an hour and spaces are limited to keep things cosy.

You can book your space here.

  • Yes. 100%. You don’t need to know all the songs, turn up looking polished, or have it all together to come along. Lots of mums worry they’ll feel awkward at their first class. But these sessions are small, relaxed and welcoming, with no cliques or judgement.

Messy buns, muslins on shoulders and “winging it” vibes are all very welcome here.

  • Perfect. Lots of families roll into Sensory Storytime afterwards. You’ll find the same cosy, supportive vibe, just with more colour, sound and play as your baby grows.
